Finish Care Instruction

Palmer leg systems are made of solid brass, then heavily plated to either chrome, polished or satin nickel.  The polished chrome finish will generally need no care other than normal cleaning and dusting, e.g. damp soft cloth, and will not tarnish.

The polished nickel will require the same as chrome, but will eventually tarnish and show some fingerprints.  This may take a few months, but eventually it will look a little dull, so the care is to polish the metal legs with a brass or copper polish.  We recommend Flitz metal polish or Never Dull metal polish.  Do not use a liquid metal polish, as it will tend to collect in the crevices and turn green.

The polishing for the nickel finish will need to be done only once or twice a year.  To make it last even longer between polishings and protect it from water spots or discoloration, it may be finished off with a little furniture paste wax (such as Butchers Wax), worked into a soft, clean cloth and rubbed lightly over the nickel.

The polished brass finish is unlacquered and designed to naturally tarnish into an authentic patina.  If you would prefer to have a shiny look, just follow the same instructions for the polished nickel finish, but apply more frequently - about once a month, depending on use.

Our oil-rubbed bronze finish requires nothing more than an occasional dusting. It is a living finish and should NEVER be polished.
