TECHNICAL/GENERAL
1. What technical and sales support does Palmer provide? Palmer takes great pride in our customer support. All Palmer phone calls are answered personally by the owner, Anthony Palmer, the General Manager, Mark Tanzi, or experienced, full-time sales professionals. We NEVER direct you to an automated answering service. We are all technically proficient, extremely focused, responsive, and service oriented.
2. What distinguishes Palmer from the competition? There are several manufacturers of console legs in the industry, but we feel that none of our competition can provide our comprehensive offering of extreme customer service, versatility, customization, quick delivery, variety of styles and options, high quality components, field adjustability, with reasonable pricing. Please review our Advantages and Features description for expansion of these important points.
3. What is the purpose of a console leg system? A Palmer washstand will allow you to support any china or stone vanity top of your choice, with no limits as to size, shape, or finish.
4. What size washstands do you offer? Palmer offers standard size washstands as shown in our Specifications , BUT…we offer ANY of our washstands in ANY custom size …no problem. We will fit our washstand to the specific size of your top…the perfect marriage. Additionally, our washstands can easily be cut on site to alter any of the dimensions if necessary.
5. What diameter tubing do you offer? Palmer offers the Decorative Collar, Tapered Foot, and Bun Foot models in both 1.5” and 1.0” diameter tubing. We typically suggest the 1.0” size for counters narrower than approximately 25”-27”. The Flush model and Square model are available in the 1.5” size only.
6. Does Palmer offer custom sizes, styles, and configurations? Yes, absolutely!! In fact, close to 50% of our orders are for custom washstands . Custom is OK, and we welcome it.
7. Will Palmer provide shop drawings for custom units? Yes. Palmer can very quickly provide shop drawings for client review. Typical drawing formats include PDF, DXF, and DWG. We can provide 2-D elevations and 3-D model views using SolidWorks.
8. What finishes are available? The Palmer standard finishes are Polished Brass UN-lacquered, Polished Chrome, Polished Nickel, Satin Nickel, and Oil-Rubbed-Bronze. We will supply custom finishes upon request.
9. Can Palmer custom match a finish? Yes. If you have a particular faucet finish you are looking to match, we can oblige. Send us the sample finish, and we will quote you immediately.
10. Does Palmer provide a shelf option for additional storage? Yes. Palmer offers a metal hotel-style towel shelf for storage of soft goods underneath the sink, as well as individual shelf supports to be used with any customer-supplied glass or stone shelf.
11. Can the Palmer metal towel shelf be customized? Yes. Our shelf can be fabricated to fit any custom size washstand, no problem. The width of the shelf can be specified to any dimension required, and the depth of the shelf can be specified in increments of 1 7/8”: e.g., 10 1/4”, 12 1/8”, 14”, 15 7/8”, 17 3/4”, etc.
12. Will Palmer provide glass legs? Even better. Our domestically-produced cast Acrylic rod is far superior to glass for use with a washstand. Acrylic may cost a little more than glass, but its unsurpassed clarity (clearest material known), high-strength, workability, light weight, longevity, and on-site reparability make it a superior choice for many applications.
13. Does Palmer offer an ADA-compliant model? Yes. Palmer washstands are all customizable to ADA requirements. ADA specifies that the minimum width between legs be 30”, the minimum height to the underside of the front horizontal cross member be 27”, and the maximum height to the sink surface be 34”, all of which we can satisfy.
14. Can the washstand be adjusted in size on site? Yes. Every Palmer stand can be cut on site to reduce the size of a washstand. The tubing we use is solid brass, and can be cut easily with a powered miter saw with carbide blade, or a tubing cutter. The solid Acrylic rod can also be cut with a miter saw. Care must be taken to avoid scratches during cutting. In all cases, the cut end of the tubing will be entirely concealed within our fittings. Leg stands provided with an integral Palmer towel shelf cannot be field modified for width and depth, only height.
15. Can a Palmer towel shelf be cut on-site? Absolutely not. If a washstand was provided with a shelf, and the stand must then be cut on site, the shelf must be returned to Palmer for rework.
16. What overhang is recommended from the edge of the counter to the outside of the legs? Palmer typically suggests a 2” overhang measured from the outside edge of the counter to the outside edge of the legs. For very narrow sinks, approximately 24” or smaller, a smaller overhang is generally suggested.
17. Are components replaceable in the field due to damage or wear? Yes, absolutely. An advantage of Palmer systems is that any component is replaceable, at any time. This would not be the case with a fully welded and assembled system. Our knock-down assembly allows for a component to be swapped out in the event of damage, defect, or general wear. Palmer can typically ship out any component the same day we are notified, thereby preventing excessive down time on the job. This is especially important with commercial projects.
18. What metal is the washstand? All Palmer washstands are fabricated from 100% solid brass…the “good stuff”. We use no inferior steel or white-metal parts that could rust and corrode.
19. How are your parts made? Our components such as the ball fittings, wall flanges, feet, and top caps are machined entirely from solid brass rod producing exceptionally accurate and detailed surfaces, far superior to “off-shore” sand castings…compare the difference. All our parts were designed by Palmer, and are unique to our line. These are not stock off-the-shelf “railing” components used by most other manufacturers.
20. What is the Palmer delivery time? Our orders typically ship in approximately two to three weeks, standard size or custom.
21. Does Palmer offer a Rush Service? Yes. Palmer will rush an order when necessary for our clients. Please consult Palmer for rush charges .
22. Where are your washstands made? All our consoles are proudly made in our Providence, RI facility using American labor and resources. Because of this, we are able to efficiently satisfy the many (and frequent) design requests of the trade and homeowners alike, and that has proven vital to our success and expansion.
23. What if I have a china sink? Our /C model indicates that the stand is suited for installation with china (porcelain) sink tops. This model will not have the short vertical risers located at the rear of the stand. Most china tops do not have a usable flat area at the rear underside of the sink to receive vertical supports, and hence these supports (risers) are eliminated in this /C model. A wall bracket is supplied with every Palmer stand to secure the sink to the wall, and help support the rear weight.
24. What if I have an older or antique china top and would like new legs? No problem. The best approach is to email us some clear photos of the underside of your sink allowing us to establish preferred locations for the tops of our legs. We will then ask for some preliminary measurements, and forward you a proposal with dimensions and layout for your review. Optionally, you can ship us the actual sink, which will allow us to fully inspect and measure your top, and specify a size that fits perfectly. We will ship your sink back, along with your new washstand in very sturdy packaging. Most china sinks are easily shipped via U.P.S.
25. Do the legs support the sink entirely by themselves? No. All sink tops require additional wall fastening for support. An additional wall bracket is necessary, and is included with every stand, but additional support may be required for extra large or extra heavy tops. This wall bracket is mandatory, and will guarantee a very secure attachment of your sink top to the wall. Palmer wall brackets are offered in a standard size and weight, as well as heavy duty and custom lengths. All fasteners are included. Any counter weighing in excess of 150 pounds requires the use of our heavy weight wall bracket.
26. How are the legs secured to the bottom of the sink? Palmer offers two options for securing the top of the leg to the underside of your sink. The simpler method is to merely silicone the top cap of the leg to the underside of the sink with the provided silicone. This silicone-only method is always used for china tops. The more positive option for stone tops is to install the provided pin in the top of leg, and drill a small hole in the underside of the stone counter to receive this pin. Silicone will also be used in conjunction with this method.
27. Does a stone top require a center support at the front of the counter? This is a definite “maybe”. The various grades of stone differ in their strength…some extremely strong, others somewhat fragile. Palmer can provide additional support to the front of the counter in the form of an extra leg(s), or a vertical riser(s). For a wide double-sink vanity configuration, a center leg can be located between the sinks where it will not interfere with the user. This can be seen in our three and four-leg configurations. For a single-sink extra wide vanity, a riser can be used for extra support in the middle of the span, when a center leg extending to the floor would not be practical. This front riser, shown in our XL model , can be positioned in the middle of the span, or at any point along the front horizontal cross member, and multiple front risers can be used. In lieu of Palmer risers and extra legs, a wooden sub-structure can be fabricated on site to support the span of stone, and this structure can be concealed behind a front stone apron.
28. Can Palmer provide just individual legs, instead of full washstands? Yes. Palmer offers individual (single) legs to be used at the front of a counter for support. These are installed without any of our standard horizontal cross members. This provides a different look than our full stands, as well as an economical option.
29. How much weight will a Palmer stand accommodate? The Palmer leg systems are both structural and decorative, and must be installed according to published instructions, using the included hardware and fasteners for safety purposes. The weight limits are as follows:
- 2-leg 1.5”-diameter: 300 LB with heavy wall bracket
- 2-leg 1.0” diameter: 200 LB with heavy wall bracket
- 3-leg 1.5”-diameter: 350 LB with heavy wall brackets
- 5-leg 1.5”-diameter: 400 LB with heavy wall brackets
- 4-leg 1.5”-diameter: 400 LB with heavy wall bracket
- 4-leg 1.0” diameter: 300 LB with heavy wall bracket
Please Contact Palmer Industries for anything other than these configurations or weight limits.
30. Do Palmer stands require some assembly? Yes. Palmer stands are shipped partially assembled. The individual legs are one continuous piece, and are fully assembled with the feet, top caps, and corner fittings. The horizontal cross members must be assembled to the legs, and to the wall. These horizontal members attach very easily to the legs and wall flanges with provided set screws and set screw wrench. Installation Instructions are included with all our washstands.
31. What hardware is included with the stand? Palmer includes a complete hardware package with every washstand. This package includes a wall bracket for support of the sink, screws with hollow-wall anchors for attaching the wall flanges and wall bracket, shims for leveling, pins to position the top and bottom of the legs, extra set screws for attaching the cross members, a hex wrench for use with the set screws, rubber bumpers for use with an optional shelf, silicone for securing the sink to the top of the legs and wall bracket, and lastly polish for cleaning the stand after assembly…everything you will need!!
32. How are Palmer stands packaged and shipped? All Palmer stands are shipped via U.P.S. directly from our Providence, RI facility. The stands are shipped knock-down thereby providing low shipping costs and very efficient delivery. Each individual component is double wrapped in protective foam, and tightly packed in our heavy cardboard shipping cartons. We experience close to zero shipping damage.
33. What care and maintenance is required? Palmer stands should be cared for as you would any other decorative bath fixture, such as faucets and towel bars. Palmer includes Care and Maintenance Instructions with every shipment.
34. What is the Palmer Warranty? Palmer warranties the leg system against any mechanical failure of parts for the life of the product when properly installed and used for the intended purpose only. Chrome and Nickel finishes for residential use carry a lifetime warranty, and for commercial use carry a one-year warranty. UN-lacquered Brass, Oil-Rubbed Bronze, and custom finishes such as lacquered Antique Brass are not warrantied. Palmer custom finishes are hand applied, and as such, are subject to natural variations in color and texture consistent with similar products in the market. Different components, such as tubing and fittings, are likely to have slightly different color tone due to their method of production and the high degree of hand craftsmanship involved with the finishing process. Our legs are superbly finished, but they are not jewelry. When “defects” occur they should be viewed at approximately the same angle and distance that you would view this stand when installed: i.e., the leg is on the floor and you are standing up. If the defect is visible at that vantage point, it may be considered a legitimate reject; if not, it is considered to be within industry standards for bathroom furniture. The same standards would not apply to a faucet, for example, since that is viewed at eye level and must be “perfect”.

2. What are the dealer display requirements? Palmer requires a minimum showroom commitment of ONE complete washstand, along with our free-standing carousel leg display. The carousel display accommodates twelve individual legs, and showcases many of our styles, sizes, and finishes. It will truly create a washstand product category within your showroom, and distinguish our offering.
3. What display merchandise/samples/tools are available for our showroom? Palmer offers several options to display and sell our product in your showroom. We offer a free-standing carousel leg display. The carousel display accommodates twelve individual legs, and showcases many of our styles, sizes, and finishes. Additionally, Palmer offers finish sample rings, and many color handout brochures.
4. What are the popular selling models and finishes? The Decorative Collar and Tapered Foot models continue to be our big sellers. The Bun Foot and Flush models are new, and have become good sellers in 2010. Polished Chrome and Polished Nickel account for over 75% of our sales, although recently we have seen an uptick in alternative finishes such as gold, and various antique patinas. The 1.5” model accounts for 80% of our sales, with the 1.0” at 20%. Shelf supports and Palmer shelves continue to sell very well, with over 25% of our orders including these parts.
5. Does Palmer have sales reps I can contact in my area? Please consult our Sales Rep Agency database.
6. Will Palmer correspond directly with my customer if required? Yes. Palmer frequently corresponds directly with end users on behalf of our dealers…even our installation instructions direct the installer to contact us directly for questions or parts, thereby sparing the dealer this time and energy. We often interact with architects and designers working through a design concept, and subsequently turn the sale over to our dealers. Palmer will provide whatever support to whomever you require at any time.

11. Does Palmer offer co-op advertising programs? Palmer has no formal co-op advertising program, but we have worked with several dealers on local advertising projects. We have many high-quality images available for your use, and will work with you directly creating an appropriate ad.
12. Are Palmer products sold on-line? No. Palmer sells only through authorized, qualified dealer showrooms. We protect our dealer network, and will not sell through two-step distribution. Palmer strongly opposes the selling of our products at deep discounts via the internet, outside the dealer’s service area.
13. Does Palmer have a M.A.P. policy? Yes. Advertised prices of products may not appear at a discount greater than twenty-five percent (25%) below Palmer’s current retail price. For repeated violations, Palmer reserves the right to suspend or terminate the Reseller’s authorization to sell Palmer products. It is our view that the advertising of steep price discounts devalues our products, brand, and dealers.
14. May I use my own shipping service to receive product? No…let us explain. We have an arrangement with U.P.S. to pick up our completed Palmer orders three times daily…this is a contractual accommodation they make for us because of the quantity of systems we ship monthly. This greatly benefits the dealers, as we have opportunity to ship almost immediately following packaging without delay. Our systems move directly from the fabrication facility to our holding warehouse, and U.P.S. moves right in for the pickup at a scheduled time and location…a smooth, low-cost, low overhead operation that works well. Additionally, our purchasing and sales software is linked with U.P.S.-specific software that permanently records all shipping information on your Palmer sales order providing a very accurate historical record and tracking of all transactions.
16. What are typical shipping charges? Packaging and shipping costs for a standard-size, two-leg model run approximately $35 - $55 depending on location.
17. Does Palmer drop ship? Yes, but with exception. Palmer strongly opposes the selling of our products at deep discounts, outside of the dealer’s service area. We will always ship within your territory and reasonably beyond, but may question out of state shipments to ensure that our dealer network is protected.
18. What is the Palmer return policy? All claims for damages and shortages must be reported to Palmer within 10 days of delivery. Return goods will not be accepted without written authorization and assigned RGA number. A minimum 25% restocking fee will be imposed for all unopened, standard items returned in original condition. Any custom item including non-standard size or non-standard finish, and opened items are not be returnable at all. All requests for returns must be made within 60 days of purchase, and must be shipped FREIGHT PREPAID. Eligible returns will receive a credit memo to be issued against future purchases only.
19. Does Palmer have a minimum order? No.
20. Does Palmer belong to any trade organizations? Yes. Palmer is a member of the Decorative Hardware and Plumbing Association (DHPA). We have exhibited twice at the annual DPHA conference, and remain very active in the organization. Anthony Palmer, our owner and president, served on the DPHA board for several years.
21. What sink top can I use to display Palmer in my showroom? Most dealers display Palmer stands with either a china (porcelain) top or a custom stone top. Virtually any brand of china top you carry, such as Duravit, Sonia, Porcher, Lefroy Brooks, Kohler, Barclay, St. Thomas, Hastings, etc. can be used. Many dealers partner with a local stone fabricator, and use a granite or marble counter to display with Palmer. Other materials such as architectural cement, glass, quartz, and wood have also been used for the counter material.
22. How do I specify the size for a china sink model? Unfortunately, most manufacturers of china sinks do not provide adequate specifications of the underside of their sink…we need underside specs in order to determine the exact location of our legs. So, we can either provide a washstand that will be larger than required with the intention of cutting the unit on-site to fit exactly, or you can ship us the sink and we will then take all the measurements carefully, and specify a size washstand that fits your china top perfectly. We will maintain these specs on file for future orders. Most china sinks are easily shipped via U.P.S.
23. How is a custom stand ordered? A Palmer Ordering Guide must be submitted with every purchase order for a custom stand and every order that includes a Palmer towel shelf. The Ordering Guide, found online as well as in your price list, will specify the size of the counter, the size of the washstand, and many other model specifications and information. The submittal of the Ordering Guide is mandatory, and will expedite your order greatly.
24. Can a Palmer towel shelf be added to an existing stand in the field? Yes….But, shelf supports are required to support our towel shelf, and must be installed. If shelf supports are not already in place, then the washstand must be disassembled to add these parts. After the shelf supports are added, a Measurement Guide must then be filled out accurately and submitted with your shelf order. If the shelf supports are already in place, then only a Measurement Guide must be submitted.
25. Does Palmer supply washstands for Stone Forest tops? Yes. Palmer provides several washstands for various Stone Forest models. If you are ordering a stand to support a Stone Forest top, please consult our Part Numbering Guide to accurately specify our correct part number for the particular Stone Forest top. This will ensure that we provide the correct size washstand. A Palmer heavy wall bracket is required for all Bordeaux and Medium Bordeaux tops.

HOSPITALITY MEMBER:
1. How does the Palmer washstand benefit the hospitality market? The Palmer metal console washstand allows tremendous flexibility in your commercial bathroom layout. Palmer will customize any model to any size. The Palmer stands provide a clean, open appearance that is easy to maintain, with full access to the plumbing below. TILE & STONE SHOWROOM/FABRICATOR:
1. Do Palmer stands work with stone counter tops? Yes. Our Palmer stands are the ideal compliment to your stone vanities…the perfect marriage. You supply the top, and Palmer supplies the stand in virtually any size, configuration, and finish. Some of Palmer’s best dealers nationwide are specialty stone and tile distributors such as Renaissance Tile, Artistic Tile, Tile Showcase, and many others. Partnering with Palmer will open your business to a whole new source of revenue. You will no longer have to send your clients to other businesses to acquire a stand for your tops…you can now satisfy that request in house. A stone dealer has the benefit of a captive, qualified customer base that actually needs washstands...use this to your advantage!
2. Is a stone top in danger of cracking where it rests on the top of the legs? No. The tops of all our legs are solid, and will provide a bearing surface for your stone top measuring between 1.0” diameter and 2.25”-diameter. Additionally, we supply a tube of silicone with every order which is applied to the top of the leg where it contacts the stone, acting as both an adhesive and a “cushion” to prevent stress at this point.
3. This front riser, shown in our XL model, can be positioned in the middle of the span, or at any point along the front horizontal cross member, and multiple front risers can be used. In lieu of Palmer risers and extra legs, a wooden sub-structure can be fabricated on site to support the span of stone, and this structure can be concealed behind a front stone apron.
35. How much weight will a Palmer stand accommodate? The Palmer leg systems are both structural and decorative, and must be installed according to published instructions, using the included hardware and fasteners for safety purposes.

INSTALLER:
3. Are assembly instructions included with the stand? Yes. A complete set of assembly instructions and an exploded-view line drawing are provided. All components are called out specifically. Please refer to our Installation Instructions and Installation Video.
4. What hardware is included with the stand? Palmer includes a complete hardware package with every washstand. This package includes a wall bracket for support of the sink, screws with hollow-wall anchors for attaching the wall flanges and wall bracket, shims for leveling, pins to position the top and bottom of the legs, extra set screws for attaching the cross members, a hex wrench for use with the set screws, rubber bumpers for use with an optional shelf, silicone for securing the sink to the top of the legs and wall bracket, and lastly polish for cleaning the stand after assembly…everything you will need!
5. What are the critical aspects of installation? It is very important to check for plumb, level, and square as you install the legs and the horizontal cross members. Double check that the side horizontal members that return to the wall at both the top of the leg and the bottom (shelf supports at bottom) are set perfectly parallel to one another, square to the front legs, and level. Additionally, the use of the wall bracket is mandatory, and the feet must be pinned to the floor. See our Installation Instructions.
6. How can the fit of a towel shelf be improved if the shelf supports are not set parallel? The clips that secure the towel shelf to the shelf supports can be moved outward with the provided shims, in order to improve their fit, accounting for shelf supports that spread outward. Please refer to the Towel Shelf Instructions.
7. Leg stands provided with an integral Palmer towel shelf cannot be field modified.
8. Can a shelf be cut on-site? Absolutely not. If a washstand was provided with a shelf, and the stand must then be cut on site, then the shelf must be returned to Palmer for rework.
9. Can I relocate the height of the horizontal cross members? Yes, on some models. On the Decorative Collar, Tapered Foot, Bun, and Flush models, the corner fitting that secures these horizontal tubes to the vertical legs can be re-positioned vertically. This fitting has small set screws which can be loosened to allow for this movement. If the horizontal tubes are lowered, the rear risers will be too short, and new tubes will have to be supplied. If the horizontal tube is raised, the rear risers will be too long, and will have to be cut on site.
10. Can I relocate the height of the shelf supports? Yes. The corner TEE fitting that secures the horizontal shelf support tubes to the vertical legs can be repositioned vertically by simply loosening the set screws within this fitting. The standard height of the shelf support is 12” from the bottom of the shelf support tubing to the floor.
11. What if my floor is not level? Every Palmer stand is included with leveling shims to adjust for a floor out of level. Our Installation Instructions indicate the exact location to place these shims such that they will be completely invisible once the stand is assembled.
12. What if I damage a component during assembly? No problem. An advantage of Palmer systems is that any component is replaceable. This would not be the case with a fully welded and assembled system. Our knock-down assembly allows for a component to be swapped out easily in the event of damage or defect. Palmer can typically ship out any component the same day we are notified, thereby preventing excessive down time on the job. If a tube is scratched during assembly, the tube can usually be rotated in such a manner that the scratch is no longer visible. All of the Palmer fittings are secured to the tubing with small set screws which can be loosened to allow for repositioning of the tubes.
13. Are small scratches on Acrylic repairable in the field? Yes, unlike a glass rod. Palmer has an Acrylic Repair and Maintenance kit which allows for the repair of Acrylic using special polishing compounds…and a bit of “elbow grease”.
14. Wall brackets are offered in a standard size and weight, as well as heavy duty and custom lengths. All fasteners are included. Any counter weighing in excess of 150 pounds requires the use of our heavy weight wall bracket.
15. How are the legs secured to the floor? Palmer provides a pin to be used at the bottom of every leg. It is mandatory that this pin be drilled into the floor to prevent movement of the leg and loss of stability.
16. How are the legs secured to the bottom of the sink? Palmer offers two options for securing the top of the leg to the underside of your sink. The simpler method is to silicone the top cap of the leg to the underside of the sink. This method is always used with china tops, as these tops cannot be drilled. We provide the silicone. The more positive option (typically used for stone tops) is to install the provided pin in the top of leg, and drill a small hole in the underside of the counter to receive this pin. Silicone will also be used in conjunction with this method.
17. What overhang is recommended from the edge of the counter to the outside of the legs? Palmer typically suggests a 2” overhang measured from the outside edge of the counter to the outside edge of the legs. For very narrow sinks, approximately 24” or smaller, a smaller overhang is generally suggested.
18. Can a homeowner install a Palmer leg? Yes. If you have some average mechanical aptitude, and can measure accurately, then a homeowner can successfully install these systems.
19. What tools are required to install a Palmer system? Tools required will be a tape measure, 12” and 24” levels, framing square, drill and bits, Phillips screwdriver, and if cutting is required, a miter saw or tubing cutter.
20. What care and maintenance is required? Palmer stands should be cared for as you would any other decorative bath fixture, such as faucets, towel bars, etc. Palmer includes Care and Maintenance Instructions with every shipment.
